As parents, Jason and I are never sure if we are teaching our children the important lessons of life. At great discomfort to myself, I have tried to teach them the proper names for their anatomy. ( Mind you I was brought up on WHO-WHO's and "Front Buns") With Autumn in the house, Elijah has become concerned at her obvious lack of anatomy, and I have been skirting around the issue, feeling too tired to make myself say those grown-up words again. Lucky for me, Madeline saved the day.
"Elijah, don't you know that boys have penises and girls have "Chinas"?"
Satisfied that she had explained it better than I could have, I let it go. The next day Elijah was clearly still mulling it over in his mind.
"So mama, me, dad and Jaxen have pee-pees right?"
"Yup"
"And you, Madeline and Auty are Chinese, right?"
Pause.... giggle....pause..... "Yep, that's right buddy."
So you tell me, can I consider this lesson taught?

Blizzard

It takes a lot to cancel school here in Colorado, but to my kids great happiness, their spring break started two days early due to our Spring Storm. To my delight, Jason was off of work and in my opinion, we had one our best two days in a long time. No where to go, no responsibilities, just food, family and....well, food. AHHHHH, so rejuvinating!

Nick Name
The sign that someone has officially been accepted as a part of a gang is when they get their nick name. On their own, the kids seem to have decided on one for Autumn. When I named her, I couldn't think of how we would shorten Autumn, but now it seems so clear. AUTY it is.

And who wouldn't want to be a part of this gang??

The Big Boy
I must admit, this birthday made me a bit sad. The difference between 3 and 4 seems like light years. It feels like the official end of his babyhood. This boy has had my heart in his hand since the day he was born. He is the little man. Born with a full head of hair, big brown eyes and the ability to get the whole family to do his bidding.
Over this past year, his chubby cheeks have been disappearing and his short legs have stretched and lost all of their rolls. I look back at his pictures and my heart breaks. I'm so glad he came to us. I love being his mom!

Aloha!!!

Here is the quick list of Madeline's traits as she enters into her 7th year:
**Enthusiastic. Almost too much so sometimes, but this girl has energy.
**Fun. She is always up for whatever is going on.
**Responsible. I never have to check her back pack or remind her of things. She is on the ball and keeping everyone else on track.
**Unrefined. I feel that we have a long way to go on her manners and social awareness. I am always reminding her of personal space and trying to teach her social graces. She takes my remarks well, tries, but all in all, it is not sinking in.
**Hard worker. Again, she is focused and ready to go. She puts in her best work.
**Inbetween. As a middle child, she struggles to find her place to get attention. Too old to be the baby, too young to be the first or best at things. She is keenly aware of what is fair or not and at times seems lost in her attempts to be noticed.
**Vocal. I am 100% sure that there has never been a thought that has passed through her mind that I have not heard. There are no secrets with this girl. Her honesty is legendary. She will always tell the WHOLE story, even if it incriminates her.

Happy Birthday Miss Moo!!!
